On September 23th, at the China (Beijing) International Construction Machinery, Building Materials Machinery and Mining Machinery Exhibition (BICES 2025), Cummins released a new low-carbon power solution for the off-road market, including a new generation of excavator hydraulic matching intelligent control system, a 3.9L-15L hybrid system and a 19L methanol industrial version engine, injecting new momentum into the green development of China’s construction machinery industry with technological innovation.
Since the introduction of the first high-horsepower engine to China in 1975, Cummins has continued to promote the deep integration of global technology and the Chinese market for 50 years, realizing the evolution from traditional fuel power to low-carbon and zero-carbon power, from single application to multiple solutions, helping Chinese OEMs compete for the global mining market and build a sustainable local industry ecology.
Deeply cultivate flexible manufacturing in the field of high horsepower, and shorten the delivery cycle to 18 days
Cummins comprehensively demonstrated the latest progress in the localization of all mining power, covering 19L to 60L displacement, covering the 600-3000 horsepower segment, meeting multiple emission standards from China III/Tier 2 to China V/Tier 4F.
Xiang Yongdong, general manager of Cummins’ China Power System Division, introduced that at present, Cummins has nearly 20 factories in China, and Chongqing is the starting point of Cummins’ manufacturing in China. Since the Chongqing Cummins factory moved to a new site in Liangjiang New Area three years ago, it has been completely redesigned and laid out, deployed 5G networks, and actively promoted Industry 4.0, and has achieved local manufacturing of 14-60L full-spectrum high-horsepower engines, with an annual production capacity of 23,000 flexible production lines and a shortened delivery cycle of 18 days.

Cummins has also set up a high-horsepower engine R&D center and an engine and engine assembly technology center in Chongqing to support the customized development needs of Chinese customers, and the results have gradually fed back to other factories and OEMs around the world. At present, Cummins has achieved the R&D, design and innovation of high-horsepower products in China, as well as the whole process of local closed-loop from parts support to service support.
Xiang Yongdong said that China’s market environment is fiercely competitive, especially in the past decade, intelligent manufacturing and digitalization have developed rapidly, and Cummins is standing on the shoulders of giants to achieve innovation. This year, in the 2025 smart factory gradient cultivation action jointly carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other six ministries and commissions, Beijing Foton Cummins was selected as an excellent smart factory project, and Dongfeng Cummins and Chongqing Cummins were selected as advanced smart factory projects respectively.
“For Cummins, China is gradually transforming from a manufacturing center to a global R&D center, and its technological achievements continue to be exported to the world, so as to achieve ‘China for China’ and lay a solid foundation for ‘China for the world’. In the future, Cummins will continue to promote customized services oriented to the needs of the Chinese market, drive collaborative innovation at the upstream and downstream levels of the supply chain, and make China the core demonstration base of Cummins’ global high-end manufacturing. Xiang Yongdong said.
Li Zhan, General Manager of Cummins’ East Asia Distribution Business Unit, added, “In this process, Cummins brings TCO (Full Life Cycle Cost) solutions to partners and upstream and downstream suppliers. When partners go overseas, they recognize this concept and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results with Cummins, reflecting Cummins’ important contribution to the construction of industrial chain and supply chain in China’s decades of development. ”
In terms of technical support and services, mining equipment needs to ensure 24-hour continuous operation and cannot be stopped, and Cummins adopts a “double insurance” supply chain + service model. Relying on the network resources of the seven regions established in the past 100 years, including more than 30,000 technicians and more than 10,000 dealers, to provide professional services; on the other hand, relying on the advantages of the East Asia Distribution Division, it is preparing for support professional team that goes overseas to provide multiple support.
Create mining power solutions to help Chinese enterprises compete for the global mining market
China has a long history of participating in the global mining industry, but the real rapid growth has occurred in the past two years, which is directly related to the improvement of equipment manufacturing level. Chai Ruimin, general manager of Cummins China Industrial Market, believes that the Chinese market is now more qualified to participate in the global mining market competition, and the mining field is expected to become a hot spot in China’s construction machinery and equipment manufacturing industry in the next few years, and it is also a common choice for OEMs to use it as the second growth curve of enterprises.
However, the mining industry is huge and relatively vertically closed, and the application conditions are extremely complex and scattered, making it difficult to quickly iterate and promote on the basis of other industries. At the same time, the mine has extremely high reliability requirements, with a product life cycle of up to 12 years and four overhaul cycles, so new entrants face high costs.
Cummins’ value as a major player in the global mining sector stems from its large market presence accumulated over decades. Most of the indicators of Cummins’ engine product line are based on the rigorous needs of the mining industry, and although its high-horsepower engines are used in oil and gas fields, marine machinery and other fields, its unique advantage lies in the use of platform design routes covering the most high-end and most severe mining scenarios downwards. The annual operating time of mining equipment is up to 6000-7000 hours.

Chai Ruimin said that Chongqing Cummins aims to provide Chinese customers with mining products that truly meet their needs. This not only ensures mine-grade reliability and durability, but also improves local adaptability to better meet the specific needs of Chinese customers in terms of delivery cycle and efficiency, and digital technology and local manufacturing efficiency improvements further enhance product competitiveness.
Xiang Yongdong further added that Cummins is an important partner in helping Chinese OEMs participate in the global mining market. Combined with the international century-old technology precipitation, Cummins has carried out a large number of adaptive secondary development for Chinese construction machinery manufacturers and specific application scenarios to continuously enhance local competitiveness.
