Operation and maintenance guideance of Cummins engine

Use fuel, lubricating oil and coolant that meet the specifications as specified in the technical specifications.

Chongqing Cummins Co., Ltd. uses the latest technology and the highest quality components in the production of engines. So when parts need to be replaced, we recommend – be sure to use genuine Cummins parts.
During operation, pay close attention to the engine for the following conditions. If any item appears suddenly, it is likely to be a harbinger of failure, please check and repair in time.

1. The engine starts or stops badly.
An abnormal vibration.
A lack of power.
An unusual noise.
An increase in oil consumption.
A sudden change in working pressure and temperature.
A fuel consumption increases.
Excessive exhaust smoke.
1. Fuel, oil or water leakage.
Start the engine correctly

To avoid damage to the starter motor, do not allow the starter motor to operate continuously for more than 20 seconds. Allow 2 minutes between starts.

Within 10 seconds after starting, the alarm indicators on the instrument should all go out. Otherwise, check or stop as soon as possible.

Do not idle the engine for extended periods of time. If the idling time is too long (more than 10 minutes), it may cause the following failures and even damage the engine.
Black oil leaking from an exhaust pipe
an increase in fuel consumption
Diluted by diesel oil
– Shortened maintenance intervals
Carbon deposits in one cylinder
A key part fails
A valve stuck
Operate the engine correctly

Daily check of oil pressure, coolant temperature and other engine parameters via OEM panel. to make sure they work properly. Check the panel for any alarm messages. Take appropriate action to correct the alarm condition or contact the nearest Chongqing Cummins dealer.

Always check OEM panel readings. If the pressure or temperature is not within specification, shut down the engine immediately.

Properly shut down the engine
After the engine is running at full load, the engine must be idled for 3-5 minutes before shutting down. This is to allow components such as pistons, cylinders, bearings and superchargers to cool sufficiently to avoid damage to the engine.
Properly maintain the engine

■Chongqing Cummins recommends maintaining the engine in accordance with the maintenance procedures in the operation and maintenance manual. When a maintenance level is carried out, all the work of the previous maintenance level is repeated.

If the engine operating ambient temperature is below -18°C [0°F] or above 38°C [100°F], the maintenance interval should be shortened. Work in a dusty environment, or stop frequently. It is also necessary to shorten the maintenance intervals.

Certain maintenance procedures require special tools or must be performed by a qualified technician.
If the system is equipped with parts or accessories not produced or provided by Chongqing Cummins Company. Please refer to the maintenance recommendations of the respective component manufacturers.
