Cummins teaches you how to prevent excessive water temperature

The summer is coming soon. In many areas, there will be hot weather. In some areas, there will even be a high temperature of 40 degrees. The high temperature days, for the majority of car owners, the most likely to worry is the high temperature of the vehicle. Today, Kang Kang told everyone about the water temperature.

How to determine the high water temperature

When the master drives, he sees a change in the temperature of the water table and fears that the water temperature is high. This is the aftermath of the previous founding of the three mechanical machines. After the mechanical water temperature is high, it will have serious consequences. The current state-of-the-art electronic control device has multiple protection measures for the water temperature. The thermostat will open when the coolant temperature rises, and the fan will turn on to suppress the water temperature if the coolant temperature increases. If the water temperature continues to rise, the alarm light will turn on, and the water temperature will not last for a period of time. decline

The engine shuts itself down. With multiple protection measures, it is guaranteed that the engine will not be damaged.

For Cummins machines, the real criterion for judging the high water temperature is when the water temperature warning light is on or the water temperature dashboard reaches the red zone. When this happens, service station maintenance is required.

What should we do when the water temperature is high?

After the water temperature of the vehicle is high, the owner should not turn off the flame immediately. Because the water pump and the fan of the cooling system are all driven by the engine, the water pump and the fan will stop at the same time after the flameout, and the coolant will not be able to continue to circulate. At this time, the various parts of the engine are maintained at a high temperature, if no effective cooling is available, Heat dissipation will be slow and even the temperature will continue to increase.

Correct practice: Keep the engine running for an extended period of time under idling conditions, and at the same time, turn on the air conditioner so that the fan will be forced to turn on the heat and wait until the coolant temperature drops to a normal value before turning off.

The main cause of high water temperature?

There are many reasons for the high water temperature. Here are some examples that I can easily judge:

Insufficient coolant causes high water temperature

It is easy to judge when the coolant is low – we only need to look at the auxiliary tank and the remaining amount of coolant. If the coolant level is lower than the “MIN” line, the coolant is too low.

Excessive heat sink causes excessive water temperature

If the engine room is not clean and dust is accumulated for a long time, especially the catkins in summer, it will lead to poor heat dissipation of the water tank, resulting in excessive water temperature. Under normal circumstances, because the water temperature caused by too much dust in the tank is too high, we only need to clean up the dust on the radiator to solve the problem.

It should be noted that do not flush the water tank or engine compartment directly with a faucet or high pressure water gun, otherwise it may cause the engine circuit to malfunction; moreover, the accumulated dust will condense in water, and it will stick even more tightly. To clean the dust in the engine compartment or the water tank, air guns should be used to blow away accumulated dust.

Check if the fan is working normally

In the idle condition, the fan will work with the water tank after the water temperature rises to the large circulation node. If the vehicle does not turn after the water temperature rises to 96°C after the vehicle has been idling for a certain period of time, it indicates that the fan is faulty.

The fan does not turn normally and needs to go to the service station to see if the fan function is not turned on. Especially for vehicles that have just replaced engine assemblies or ECM modules, this problem is highly probable. If the fan settings are correct, you need to check whether the fan clutch inner relay is faulty.

Check if the thermostat works well

The function of the thermostat is to automatically adjust the amount of water entering the radiator according to the temperature of the cooling water and change the circulation range of the water to adjust the cooling capacity of the cooling system to ensure that the engine works within a suitable temperature range.

If we find that the water temperature is too high during the normal driving of the vehicle, we can open the engine cover and touch the tank inlet and outlet pipes by hand to see if there is a temperature difference; if there is a temperature difference, then the thermostat is faulty, It does not work properly and causes the water temperature to be too high.

How to prevent the water temperature from being too high?

1, check or replace the coolant regularly

Various anti-rust agents and anti-foaming agents are added to the coolant to effectively reduce the rust of the cooling system and the generation of coolant bubbles. After a long period of use, these additives will be consumed, so we need to replace the new coolant regularly.

2, can not use water instead of coolant

In the daily-use car process, we must not use water for long-term instead of dedicated coolant. Water can only be used as an emergency in special circumstances. Although using water instead of coolant will not produce any adverse effects on the vehicle within a short period of time, the problem will come over time.

First, the boiling point of water is lower than that of a dedicated coolant, and it is easier to evaporate. Therefore, when using water as a coolant, it is necessary to add it frequently. Secondly, the untreated water contains more minerals. After long-term use, it will generate scale in the water pipes. When the scale is accumulated to a certain extent, it will reduce the water circulation efficiency in the water pipes, affecting the cooling effect of the cooling system. . Finally, water is prone to freezing in the winter, especially in the north. After the vehicle is parked overnight, the water in the tank will swell and swell, causing serious damage to the body

3. Periodically remove dust from water tanks and engine compartments

In the process of driving the vehicle, the high-speed wind hit on the face can help to take away the heat from the surface of the tank. If the surface area of the tank is excessively dusty, the cooling effect during driving will be greatly reduced, which may eventually lead to excessive water temperature. Therefore, we should regularly remove dust from the tank and engine compartment.

When cleaning the water tank or the dust in the engine compartment, we should avoid flushing the water directly into the engine compartment. This may cause the wire connectors to fall off and damage the electronic components. The correct approach should be to use a high-pressure air gun to blow to the dusty location. It is suggested that every time the vehicle is being serviced or washed, the service station maintenance personnel or the car wash shop staff should help clean up the dust in the engine compartment with the air gun.
